You’re never fully dressed without a smile

It was the night before a big stylish wedding in Ibiza and I was of course prepping like a boss to ensure I felt as confident as possible. I’d body brushed all over and applied a face mask followed by a coat of tan. My nails had been painted with a glossy shellac and I’d smothered a treatment into my hair to make it shine for the big day. All these things help make me feel more confident in my own skin when I want to look and feel my best. But perhaps the most important part of my preparation was simplest; ensuring I had fresh breath and a healthy clean white smile.… Continue reading...

TePe: Not just a superfoodie’s Saviour

If you’re anything like me then seeds, (chia, sunflower, strawberry, blueberry, kiwi and the like) will be a regular part of your diet. So too will broccoli and kale. And that’s great. Well, it’s great for your health at least. But what do all these foods have in common, which is perhaps not so great? That’s right. They are among the biggest smile offenders and most likely to get stuck in between your pearly whites and totally destroy a social event! I mean, how many times have you been out at a nice social occasion where you feel like you’re the life and soul of the show, commanding everyone’s attention, only for  someone to then tell you (or heaven forbid – fail to – and you, mortified, find the evidence later) that you have a lil something stuck between the gnashes?… Continue reading...

It’s our biggest and fastest growing organ so it’s only right that we give it some TLC. And if you like me live in London or a city like it, your job is doubly important as pollution will age and damage your skin at a much faster rate than if you lived in the country. Now I’m in my 30’s and fine lines and wrinkles are way more of a threat, I have to look after my skin more than I did before where face wipes and Nivea was about as far as my regime went. I’ve road tested several different product lines  and the below are the ones that made the final cut because they gave the best results.… Continue reading...

The safe way to summer skin

“Everything looks better with a tan” is the adage that leads many of us to spend thousands of pounds on trips to the sun and many dedicated hours trying to get that injection of melanin to settle and stay on the surface of our skin. Sadly, I’m a true English rose and the most my skin will do to acknowledge the sun is sprout a freckle or two and turn a light golden colour. In my youth I told myself that with enough effort, I too could turn the colour of a coconut. Yet the results of my lengthy efforts frying in the sun gave me sun stroke, sunburn and flaking white skin that shed like a snake in protest.… Continue reading...

Skin Emergency? Time for some Vitamin C

The change of seasons can wreak havoc with your skin. For me, whenever the weather changes my skin becomes dry, dull and devoid of life. So what to do? When it comes to facials – or any skincare lotions and potions, routines and regimes – I’ve always been skeptical. How far do the products really penetrate? And can they really make a difference when your skin is constantly shedding and renewing? Furthermore, in the past I’ve always felt disappointed with the results from the supposedly “miracle/life changing/totally transformative” (etc) facials that also promise to last months… I think the best results my face has ever manifested is a more radiant and hydrated complexion for up to 5 – 7 days after.  … Continue reading...

Hair Maintenance

About ten years ago one of my best girlfriends gave me Bergdoff Blondes to read. I loved it. It’s a story about the glitzy lives and loves of New York socialites and its title refers to how one of the main characters (Julie) routinely gets her hair dyed platinum blonde at luxury department store Bergdorf Goodman. Even back then I knew the significance of getting that “perfect blonde” socialite or not, and how hard (and expensive) it was to find. The book opens with words which are like the bible for blondes. “Bergdorf Blondes are a thing, you know, a New York [global] craze.… Continue reading...

Fancy a Shave… On your Face?

November 19, 2015

I’ve had some pretty freaky facials in my time (microdermabrasion which took away far too much skin for my liking, and painful laser treatments) all in pursuit of perfect skin (what us girls will put ourselves through eh?) but I’ve always been underwhelmed with the results. But recently I’ve had the good fortune of meeting Dr Jack – one of London’s top aesthetic doctor’s – and I trust his judgement. So when he said an Egyptian facial would work wonders for me, I immediately signed up for it. However, once in the chair, Dr Jack started to talk about using a scalpel to remove my dead skin cells… I started to think I may have been too hasty… Dr Jack explained that shaving or dermaplaning is a technique which has been around for centuries.… Continue reading...
