What we ate on MTLR

With so much exercise we needed to eat a lot to keep our energy up. And eat we did and very well too. Breakfast was a feast of Lucy Rocks musleis (vegan, gluten free), Pip & Nut butters, fresh fruit, chia puddings, custard tarts (we were in Portugal – it would be ride not to), eggs and toast. Lunch was usually a picnic on the beach and this was a simple chicken salad. Fruit, crisps and biccies were also on tap. This wasn’t a retreat for turning the treats down! For me, dinner was when I got really excited. Rainbow arrays of exotic salads, spreads, herbs and veggies were presented with artistic flair, accompanied by bigger, heartier dishes like risotto, pasta, paella and big meat dishes.… Continue reading...

Making Detoxing Delicious with Bioglan Superfoods

The eponymous Maya Clinic reputed for detoxing its guests with stale bread, broths and general gastronomic blandness/starvation means that many give a ‘detox’ a wide birth for fear of being hangry, tired and deprived. Happily though I’m here to tell you that detoxing does not have to be like this. We all know that exercising on a full stomach is not a good idea. Too much solid food consumption will divert blood from working muscles to the digestive process. This, along with the amount of digestive enzymes, fluids and time required to break down the food can cause bloating, nausea, stitches and/or lethargy. Additionally, some of the calories ingested from solid foods are used to simply break down and digest them; meaning these calories are wasted.
