Mad To Live: The Stoking of the brains …

So in my last post I told you that founder of MTLR’s  Sophie’s mission is to “stoke your brains out”. Wanna know what this means? Scroll down… http://poppycross.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/IMG_6072.m4v And this my friends, is a flash of what it means to get your brains stocked out. We rode, ran, swam, surfed, hiked, biked, bended, stretched, jumped and it all made us feel PUMPED! I think the best thing about it all – as well as being able to do it all in nature – wast the fantastic, unbeatable feeling of physical capability. Being able to use and move our bodies in so many different ways and to master uncertainties, grow stronger in mind, body and soul – there is nothing like it.… Continue reading...

Mad To Live Retreat: The Destination

June 19, 2017

“My aim is to totally stoke your brains out” says an impassioned Sophie spiritedly, her eyes sparkling brightly and mouth stretched into a wide smile. The force of life that sits opposite me is Sophie Everard, child of the universe, master of all sports and founder of Mad To Live Retreats. This girl has got something that no city slicker possesses. In fact, I’ve never met anyone quite like her. I first heard about Sophie’s retreats through my lovely fierce fitness friend Carly Rowena (who I’m sure you’ve heard of and she also features in my previous post on Kefalonia). Carly travels a lot with her work and is a notable fitness retreat connoisseur.… Continue reading...

F Zeen Retreat, Kefalonia

This was a very  special trip. Early one May morning four fitness bloggers including myself gathered together at Gatwick Airport for the first time, unaware that it would be the start of a beautiful friendship between us all. Not to mention the start of four days in paradise. (Scroll to the bottom of this post to find out who these girls are and where you can follow them! They are a true inspiration.) A three and a half hour flight took us in Kefalonia, the largest island of the Ionian Sea and remarkably untarnished by tourists. Its land is lush and its many beaches exotic, uncrowded and completely breathtaking.… Continue reading...

Surrey Hills Escape

March 24, 2017

When you live in a city like London regular time-outs where you can slow everything down and just enjoy the simple pleasures are a must. And for me, the most simple way to do this is to escape to the country. I can never resist the call of long walks in the rolling hills and crisp clean air, cosy log fires, long breakfasts with the weekend papers, and just generally being in nature. Having recently got back from Cape Town I was missing hiking in the mountains (and a lot more!) so I decided to book a weekend with my bestie in the Surrey Hills to get my hiking fix.… Continue reading...

Cape Town Living

March 24, 2017

This is the third and final instalment of my stint in Cape Town. So far you’ve  seen me hiking up mountains, paragliding off  them and  running, playing and being a yogi on the beach. It’s been action packed and it’s been utter bliss! You’ve also followed my trips through the breathtaking landscapes of the infamous winelands. Cape Town has SO much to offer and it ain’t over yet! Below you’ll see me  supping down the canals, biking in the hills, partying in the natural wonder that is Kirstenbosch botanical gardens and showing off the sights that make Cape Town one of my favourite places in the whole world.… Continue reading...

Cape Town WINELANDS

March 20, 2017

Cape Town is famous for its wineries so any trip to the mother city requires a visit to the vast, breathtakingly beautiful winelands. Stellenbosch (a 45 minute drive  from the city) and Franschhoek (slightly over an hour) are the closest  and serve up an abundance of charm and character along with their world class wines. I made a day of it, stopping off in Stellenbosch for lunch then continuing on to Franschhoek for some wine tasting (with one or two pit stops along the way). StellenboschDelaire Graff Estate Nestled between majestic mountains and overlooking the vineyards of Stellenbosch lies this gem.… Continue reading...

Take a Hike: Cape Town Mountain Series

March 15, 2017
Processed with VSCO with a5 preset
Cape Town is surrounded by mountains which makes for dreamy (not so) city slicker living. The two most popular hiking trails are Table Mountain and Lion’s Head. Both offer easy and more taxing routes but whichever one you pick – I’m telling you – the views are out of this world! Table mountain will take you longer. I did the toughest most taxing route in just under an hour with some very fit friends. You basically climb massive boulders non-stop. SUCH an epic workout and it sure beats Barry’s Bootcamp or any indoor city workout any day. As for Lion’s Head – there are two routes to choose from when you get further up.… Continue reading...

The freedom to chase adventures

March 8, 2017

If you follow me on instagram then you’ll know I’ve spent the past couple of weeks in the mother city – Cape Town. I had an absolute blast. January is always full of promise for the new year but all Jan and Feb had dealt in London was endless grey skies and snow so I decided it was high time to switch to warmer climes and have some sunny adventures. Off I went… It felt so freeing to just book a ticket and get the hell outta the grey! I arrived in Cape Town, picked up a rental car and off I went to meet some friends and have some adventures.… Continue reading...

The Call of Wildfitness

January 19, 2017
IMG_7105
If like me you can become bored of bootcamps and burpees and want to try something a bit different, then read on and let me tell you about Wildfitness! Last year I hit a bit of a fitness plateau. I wanted to shake things up and learn something new and most importantly – do it outdoors. I’d had a bit of a stressful few months in the city so I didn’t want anything crazily taxing but nothing too meager either. So one cold, crisp Saturday in October I decided to check out Wildfitness and went along to one of their one-hour “jam” sessions in Battersea Park. … Continue reading...
