Mad To Live Retreat: The Destination

June 19, 2017
Processed with VSCO with a5 preset
“My aim is to totally stoke your brains out” says an impassioned Sophie spiritedly, her eyes sparkling brightly and mouth stretched into a wide smile. The force of life that sits opposite me is Sophie Everard, child of the universe, master of all sports and founder of Mad To Live Retreats. This girl has got something that no city slicker possesses. In fact, I’ve never met anyone quite like her. I first heard about Sophie’s retreats through my lovely fierce fitness friend Carly Rowena (who I’m sure you’ve heard of and she also features in my previous post on Kefalonia). Carly travels a lot with her work and is a notable fitness retreat connoisseur.… Continue reading...

My 24/7 Yoga Trainer

April 4, 2017
IMG_2954
I love yoga and I love being outside. So now that spring has sprung and the sun is shining, I’m pretty happy taking any opportunity I can to workout in the parks or my garden. Yoga is something I haven’t ever prioritised but whenever I do it I feel so much calmer, more flexible and restored both mentally and physically. So when FeetUp sent me its nifty yoga trainer I couldn’t resist having a play! It’s super easy and quick to assemble and once it’s ready to go you’ll find that having it in the house is like having your very own trainer with you 24/7 – always looking at you as if to say “Go and do some yoga!” I’ve been loving taking the FeetUp Trainer into my garden and going through all the poses on the poster which comes with it.… Continue reading...

This is the third and final instalment of my stint in Cape Town. So far you’ve  seen me hiking up mountains, paragliding off  them and  running, playing and being a yogi on the beach. It’s been action packed and it’s been utter bliss! You’ve also followed my trips through the breathtaking landscapes of the infamous winelands. Cape Town has SO much to offer and it ain’t over yet! Below you’ll see me  supping down the canals, biking in the hills, partying in the natural wonder that is Kirstenbosch botanical gardens and showing off the sights that make Cape Town one of my favourite places in the whole world.… Continue reading...

Meet Your Matcha

I have a bit of a MASSIVE obsession going on with matcha right now. So matcha so that whilst I wrote this post and perved over the pics I had to stop and make a matcha maca cappa (matcha cappuccino with maca powder) to curb my cravings. I had so much fun with this post (not just because of my own indulgences!) but because it was also an education to see the magnificent proliferation of matcha recipes. I learnt a lot. From Cruffins, (croissant and muffin cross-breed) cronuts, (croissant and donut cross-breed) cakes, cappuccinos, affogatos, matchoats (matcha oats), protein balls, waffles, pizza… Matcha knows no limits.… Continue reading...

Three Berry Good Breakfast Recipes

July 13, 2016
Berry Good Breakfast Recipes
When it comes to health berries have a fab rep. Blueberries are packed with antioxidants, (called anthocyanins), that may help keep memory sharp and raspberries contain ellagic acid, a compound with anti-cancer properties. They’re also a great sources of fiber, which aids a healthy digestive system. Oh and the best bit? They are DEE-LISH. But if you need more reasons to dig into summer’s sun-kissed little fruits, take a look at some of my favourite brekkies brimming with berries. What’s more they have the added bonus of containing some of Bioglan’s Superfoods to add more bang to your buck and more spring to your step.… Continue reading...

Cacao To Be Happy

February 3, 2016
2016-01-25 14.10.31
With the most depressing day of the year now behind us, there’s every reason to celebrate. And what better way to do this than with a spoonful of happy magic, aka cacao. Studies show that cacao may reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease and reduce your blood pressure, but it can also significantly improve your mood. Raw cacao, which you can buy from Bioglan Superfoods is the purest form of chocolate you can consume, which means it’s much less processed, has no added sugar and significantly higher in antioxidants than plain old cocoa powder or shop-bought chocolate bars. In one study, participants were given a dark-chocolate drink to consume for 30 days, which contained 500 milligrams, 250 milligrams, or 0 milligrams of polyphenols (the chemicals in plants that have antioxidant properties).… Continue reading...

NY’s Resolution #1: Find My Inner Yogi (With the help of Saskia Price and Poundon House)

December 17, 2015

Yoga. It’s something I’ve always wanted to make my best friend but we’ve always been a bit like chalk and cheese. Although, I thought I came close to finding my inner yogi back when Bikram was all the rage and I sweated (craaazy amounts) whilst obediently following the stern instructions of the Bikram master. I actually loved it. It made me feel supple and like I’d really worked hard. But Bikram took about 3 1/2 hours door to door and I couldn’t sustain the time commitment. Other yogis would also tell me that Bikram isn’t “true yoga” since the practice is very unforgiving (you’re told off if you get a posture wrong) and the calmness and meditation that comes from more traditional yoga is absent.… Continue reading...

The Balance of Fitspo – Follow-up to my Mail on Sunday article

I write about health and wellbeing because, and as I said in my article, “Encouraging others to live a balanced, active lifestyle is a good thing. If you do too little exercise you run a greater risk of suffering from heart disease, strokes, high blood pressure, osteoporosis and poor posture, and are more likely to be overweight.” However, being in the fitness blogging industry, I see some dangerous trends which affect girls on a serious level. I see girls who are breaking down from exhaustion and malnutrition, those whose periods have stopped and those who struggle to get through the day.… Continue reading...
