My quest to test the world’s longest zip line: Part I

March 5, 2018

If you’re based in Britain and anything like me then last week’s “beast from the east” had you desperately dreaming of hot sunshine and palm trees. My destination daydream was Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE, which I visited just before Christmas. I’d been invited to be one of the first to test the world’s longest zip line, scheduled to open in mid-December and I couldn’t wait. However, as you will discover when you read the following posts, things didn’t quite go to plan… Ras Al Khaimah is less well-known than its neighbor, Dubai, but the emirate is aiming to attract one million visitors by the end of 2018.… Continue reading...

Temporarily Closed for health maintenance

January 24, 2018
IMG_9467
We’ve all seen that Instagram caption that spread like wildfire over the festive period. “Temporarily closed for spiritual maintenance”. It’s a goodie. To those who took its message on board and stepped away from social media to enjoy precious moments with family and loved ones, I salute you. I’m sure both you and they benefited from the lack of phone interference. Given how beneficial this little caption was, I want to introduce an equally important one… No one wants to be ill. But fit people especially loathe the lethargy and inevitable lull in training that comes with contracting any illness. I’m a prime example.… Continue reading...

Yoga with Sophie Clyde: Ibiza and London

November 13, 2017

Mental health problems are a growing public health concern. They are prevalent not just in the UK, but around the world. Mixed anxiety & depression is the most common mental disorder in Britain, with 7.8% of people meeting criteria for diagnosis. Encouragingly however, this year has seen a positive shift in addressing the problem with public figures such as the Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry working for the Heads Together campaign, which seeks to combat the stigma surrounding mental health issues, and invite people to speak more openly about their difficulties. It’s well known that one of the best solutions and preventions to stress and anxiety is yoga and meditation – both of which I speak about frequently on my blog and IG.… Continue reading...

An introduction to Transcendental Meditation

October 30, 2017
waves
Meditation. It’s a buzz word that’s on the lips of populations worldwide. And that’s a great thing. Its been known to lower stress, improve mental clarity and promote overall health to great effect. But what’s not so talked about is transcendental meditation (TM)– and I admit that I’d never heard of it before now. But in the last couple of years especially, I’ve realised the powerful effect that practises like meditation, mindfulness and yoga (check out my Epic Sana Algarve and Quarter Life Health Project posts) can have and so I was fascinated to learn about TM and I hope you will be too!… Continue reading...

Mad To Live: The Stoking of the brains …

June 23, 2017
Processed with VSCO with a4 preset
So in my last post I told you that founder of MTLR’s  Sophie’s mission is to “stoke your brains out”. Wanna know what this means? Scroll down… http://poppycross.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/06/IMG_6072.m4v And this my friends, is a flash of what it means to get your brains stocked out. We rode, ran, swam, surfed, hiked, biked, bended, stretched, jumped and it all made us feel PUMPED! I think the best thing about it all – as well as being able to do it all in nature – wast the fantastic, unbeatable feeling of physical capability. Being able to use and move our bodies in so many different ways and to master uncertainties, grow stronger in mind, body and soul – there is nothing like it.… Continue reading...

F Zeen Retreat, Kefalonia

May 26, 2017
Processed with VSCO with a5 preset
This was a very  special trip. Early one May morning four fitness bloggers including myself gathered together at Gatwick Airport for the first time, unaware that it would be the start of a beautiful friendship between us all. Not to mention the start of four days in paradise. (Scroll to the bottom of this post to find out who these girls are and where you can follow them! They are a true inspiration.) A three and a half hour flight took us in Kefalonia, the largest island of the Ionian Sea and remarkably untarnished by tourists. Its land is lush and its many beaches exotic, uncrowded and completely breathtaking.… Continue reading...

My Top Audio Picks (And why you need them in your life)

November 10, 2016
810
Over the summer I really got into listening to audios and I can’t believe it took me so long! For all those times you may be travelling to work, stuck in traffic, walking, cleaning your house, relaxing in the bath or even getting ready to go out – all that otherwise “empty” time can be enriched with words of wisdom and knowledge which will leave you wiser, very likely happier, more motivated, inspired and more clued up. I’ve benefited so much from the audios listed below. Listening to the soothing sound of someone telling you how to be happier, live better and generally get more from life is incredibly comforting and uplifting – especially during the tough times as I found to be particularly true this summer.… Continue reading...

Meditation and Yoga Retreat at Epic Sana Algarve

November 1, 2016
IMG_4269
After a summer of indulgence and WEEK-long celebration for my sister’s wedding in Siena I was ready for some down time. The Quarter Life Health Project (see previous posts) had been my saving grace and much needed peaceful interlude preluding summer’s final hedonistic finale which left me well and truly spent! Morning breaks. View from my room. I arrived at Epic Sana Algarve, located on Praia da Falésia beach just 35 minutes from Faro airport, on October 1st for a week of yoga, meditation, beach walks and general bliss. Oh and the opportunity to bask in October’s sunshine and 28 degree celsius heat suited me just PERFECTLY too!… Continue reading...

The Quarter Life Health Project: The Experience

October 10, 2016
Processed with VSCO with f2 preset
So you’ve heard about the gang, the grub and how I felt before going to TQLHP retreat at Gran Hotel Benahavis, (see previous three posts) but how did it feel to actually be there and what was the experience like? I’ve been sworn to secrecy on sharing the special events that took place during the retreat so the surprise isn’t ruined for future guests, but I will tell you the general gist and how it affected me. The combination of yoga, meditation, workshops, walks, downtime and sunshine all shared with open-hearted and open-minded women was beautiful. There wasn’t a single soul that left the retreat not feeling more relaxed, energised and positive.… Continue reading...
