Winter Glow Retreat at Poundon House

Before Christmas I pledged to put a decent portion of my time into attempting a yogi metamorphosis. So when January came off I trotted to Poundon House for my first ever yoga retreat. Which was taught by the gorgeous and very flexible Saskia Price. In Saskia’s words her teaching style has an “emphasis on breath and creative movement of vinyassa flow, the sequencing structures of Ashtanga, the heart and classical spirit of Dharma Mittra and the philosophy and playfulness of Jivamukti.”  (And in English) that’s yogi speak for a physical, dynamic and strong practice with an emphasis on breathing and some meditation at the end.… Continue reading...

NY’s Resolution #1: Find My Inner Yogi (With the help of Saskia Price and Poundon House)

Yoga. It’s something I’ve always wanted to make my best friend but we’ve always been a bit like chalk and cheese. Although, I thought I came close to finding my inner yogi back when Bikram was all the rage and I sweated (craaazy amounts) whilst obediently following the stern instructions of the Bikram master. I actually loved it. It made me feel supple and like I’d really worked hard. But Bikram took about 3 1/2 hours door to door and I couldn’t sustain the time commitment. Other yogis would also tell me that Bikram isn’t “true yoga” since the practice is very unforgiving (you’re told off if you get a posture wrong) and the calmness and meditation that comes from more traditional yoga is absent.… Continue reading...

WellFit Festival; a fab way to spend Saturday

It was a wet start to the weekend. I opened my curtains and looked out at a grey, drizzly and rather dismal looking day. Normally, this sight would make me feel a tad dreary but on this occasion I had the exciting prospect of the WellFit Festival, organised by SBC and Frame to look forward to. I actually felt smug that, unlike many Londoners who would be wondering what to do on this wet day, I had an awesome action-packed schedule ahead involving eating lots of delicious healthy food, trying fun workouts and listening to inspiring talks form health and fitness experts – all under one dry warm roof.… Continue reading...
