September 18, 2017

If you like me have a little (ok who am I kidding)– big – something for nut mylks then experimenting with nutty concoctions in the kitchen is kinda like letting a kid loose in a sweetshop. But unlike a bag of sweets the nutty concoctions below are full of goodness and no artificial sugar, and yet still yield the same delight! I use Plenish m*lks (available at Sainsbury’s and Ocado) in all things nuts. Plenish m*lks are long life, unsweetened and organic so you know you’re getting nut-ing but the best bang for your nut buck. You will have a blast both blending and devouring these nut-ritious nut recipes.… Continue reading...

The Quarter Life Health Project: The Experience

October 10, 2016
Processed with VSCO with f2 preset
So you’ve heard about the gang, the grub and how I felt before going to TQLHP retreat at Gran Hotel Benahavis, (see previous three posts) but how did it feel to actually be there and what was the experience like? I’ve been sworn to secrecy on sharing the special events that took place during the retreat so the surprise isn’t ruined for future guests, but I will tell you the general gist and how it affected me. The combination of yoga, meditation, workshops, walks, downtime and sunshine all shared with open-hearted and open-minded women was beautiful. There wasn’t a single soul that left the retreat not feeling more relaxed, energised and positive.… Continue reading...

Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning to dance in the rain. March 8th: It was just under two weeks until my 30th birthday and I had no plans. An exciting new work project had meant that I’d had to hold off arranging any celebrations but then a sudden break in my schedule occurred and I was left with a big gaping space in my diary where my 30th birthday stood blankly. 2016 had so far been magical in many ways but very tough in others. Backtrack to last year however and there was only magic.… Continue reading...

NY’s Resolution #1: Find My Inner Yogi (With the help of Saskia Price and Poundon House)

Yoga. It’s something I’ve always wanted to make my best friend but we’ve always been a bit like chalk and cheese. Although, I thought I came close to finding my inner yogi back when Bikram was all the rage and I sweated (craaazy amounts) whilst obediently following the stern instructions of the Bikram master. I actually loved it. It made me feel supple and like I’d really worked hard. But Bikram took about 3 1/2 hours door to door and I couldn’t sustain the time commitment. Other yogis would also tell me that Bikram isn’t “true yoga” since the practice is very unforgiving (you’re told off if you get a posture wrong) and the calmness and meditation that comes from more traditional yoga is absent.… Continue reading...

Say Hello to My Favourite Vegetarian-Gluten-Free-Indian Chef

July 29, 2015
IMG_0106
I’m not a vegetarian nor am I gluten free, so when I heard about Mira Manek and her meat-and-gluten-free-Indian food my first thought was – boring. In my mind, a meal is not really a meal without meat and I don’t like the restrictions which the gluten-free diet impose (although I know that some people don’t have the luxury of choosing). But I’d met Mira a few times at various health and fitness events and she’d surprised me with her creamy-delicious no-bake flapjacks made with chickpea flour, filled with spices like ginger and cinnamon (click here for recipe) – so much so that I was curious to know what other delights she had up her sleeve.… Continue reading...
