I’m Now a fully qualified PT thanks to Train Fitness!

It was four weeks of intensive studying and training. The volume of work was vast (worksheets, learning, exams, assessments, client case studies…) and I had no idea that being a PT involved such a comprehensive understanding of physiology, anatomy and nutrition. BUT I  somehow got through it and I actually loved the time geeking up on the human body! (Nerd alert!) The Quarter Life Health Project Retreat: The Food

“Indulgent, delicious, wholesome and nutrient rich food is very much at the heart of our ethos at The Holistic Health Project.” Happily I found this statement to be true although perhaps “indulgent” is a slight stretch. The vegan gluten-free meals are all masterminded by THHP founder Stephanie and I found myself constantly quizzing her on the recipes, excited to recreate them myself at home. We ate each light and wholesome meal altogether and the buffet style format meant there was always more for anyone who wanted it. Pre-workout Protein Power Shakes

For all those times when I’m  in a rush and want to hit the gym but need some fuel to give me the energy to have a great workout – shakes are my saving grace. They are super simple to make and absolutely delicious, especially with Bioglan’s Skinny Greens Vanilla protein powder which is made with pea protein meaning it’s suitable for any diet plus it’s easy to digest. Third and Final day at Thirty Eight Degrees North, Ibiza

I got to know the breakfast staff at Aguas de Ibiza very well. With so much exercise I developed a routine of having two breakfasts because I definitely needed the extra fuel. And it would have been rude not to right? But this wasn’t an excuse to go crazy at the buffet. I kept my meals balanced and nutritious. Round (I) (eaten in a flash so no time for a snap) was berries and cereal and round two was eggs/smoked salmon and veggies with a smooth almond milk cappuccino. Day Two at Thirty Eight Degrees North, Ibiza

Day Two of Optimal Fitness Week. I woke up feeling ready to work it. That is – ready to give the morning circuits, the kickboxing, the TRX, the  boxing aaaaaand the yoga – my all. Happily, the sun made an appearance so we did the circuits outside with the awesome Faye Lovell. This girl rocks! She somehow managed to make each session super engaging, effective and dynamic. Even though Thirty Eight Degrees North (38DN), a luxury spa and fitness destination situated within the 5 star eco hotel Aguas de Ibiza in Santa Eulalia is just three years old, it’s already created a lot of hype. Guests can “reset their co-ordinates” utilising the spa, gym and the beautiful beach surroundings for outdoor training. I’d read glowing reviews from celebs such as Amanda Byram, who described it as “6 days of intense yet brilliant and enjoyable exercise in a fantastic group environment..Two (much fitter and lighter) thumbs up!!” Kelly Hoppen said “the results were fantastic” and Mel Blatt calls 38DN her “go-to for getting into shape”.… Continue reading...

Protein plus fat-only plates for No-Carb eaters

I wanted to post some recipes for all those who may be on a strict protein and fat only diet. While I would never recommend this diet to be sustained for the long-term, being a journalist, I’ve experienced several fitness institutions and nutritionists who prescribe the no-carb diet for a short-term weight loss solution. This is perfectly fine to maintain for a short while – but do get advice from a health professional before you embark on it. This will ensure you’re still giving your body everything it needs to maintain good health.
