Soakin up Sydney Life

July 27, 2018
Post half marathon I gave myself a week to sample Sydney life. It had been non-stop since my arrival and I hadn’t had a chance to actually be in the city and take it in properly. I’d visited once before but years ago so it was time to get reacquainted. I shacked up with another old friend and we had a blast. Of course a trip to Double Bay (scene of my childhood and the rest of the western world’s TV obsession, Home and Away) absolutely had to feature! I’d been before but never hiked up to overlook the whole double bay and it really is breathtaking.… Continue reading...

keep it clean

February 15, 2018
I’m writing this post in Barbados and since I can’t run outside (for safety reasons) I’m spending more time than usual in the gym, clocking those miles on the ‘mill in preparation for my marathon in April! Because of this I’m finding I have a heightened appreciation for “gym etiquette”, which is hugely important not just because it maximises one’s enjoyment in the gym but also because it plays an important role in maintaining one’s health, hygiene and general safety. Seriously folks, this stuff’s important! I recently partnered with Freya, a stylish brand which creates gorgeous sportswear and lingerie in a B-K cup.… Continue reading...

The fitness app to help keep you on track

February 12, 2018
-As a qualified PT, you may think it weird that I should enlist a fitness app to help me with my training. But everyone needs someone to help push them harder than they would do themselves especially if motivation is waning. So when Vyta app asked if I’d like to road test it I was only too happy to oblige! As you may know, I’m training for the London Marathon in April. So it’s no surprise that my main focus is running – on getting those miles in and working on my speed. Whilst it’s true that any exercise that gets my heart rate up helps with my overall fitness, my body needs to run to continue to improve my running efficiency.… Continue reading...

New Year fitness/health goals? Slow and steady wins the race

January 8, 2018
Hello you lovely lot and happy new year! I hope you had a fabulous festive break and are feeling pumped for all of 2018’s many possibilities! I’m guessing a fair few of you made health and fitness related new year’s resolutions. I did too. (More on this at the end of the post!) How are you faring with your new regimes? If you set SMART goals then I’m sure you’re doing great. But if you set the bar slightly too high and gave yourself unrealistic goals you may well be struggling. And you’re not alone. Countless people fall into this trap in January.… Continue reading...

Watergate Bay Hotel with MBFR

October 4, 2017
If you’ve read my previous posts you’ll know that I’m a big fan of Mountain Beach Fitness Retreats and you’ll know why. But there’s also the added allure of exceptional accommodation for each retreat you attend and Watergate Bay Hotel is no exception. The hotel’s USP is it’s situation right on Watergate Bay beach and it takes full advantage of this with its floor to ceiling windows allowing light to flood the pool and living areas. The sense of space and serenity that this creates is mesmerising. I could sit for hours watching the surfers paddle out to sea and ride the (huge) waves back into the beach and the happy families with their rosy-cheeked children and soggy, sandy dogs playing along the shoreline.… Continue reading...

Cornish state of mind with MBFR

September 28, 2017
A  retreat with Mountain Beach Fitness Retreats means the following. You will sweat. A lot. You will be unbelievably out of  breath. You will be pushed beyond your limits. And when you think you can’t possibly move another muscle, somehow you do. You will sleep like a baby and wake up with tired, aching limbs and feel like you need a good rest. But instead you’re once again put to the test. MBFR means sprinting  up hills, hiit circuits, hiking for hours on end, running, swimming, jumping, strengthening muscles, stretching and flexing – all within the most beautiful places on the planet staying in the most luxurious of hotels/chalets.… Continue reading...

ESC. to Cornwall with MBFR

September 27, 2017
They say a change is as good as a rest and in my experience “they” are right. The feeling of swapping the known for the unknown – be it people, place or situation – always fills me with energy and enthusiasm. I’d been looking forward to a long weekend in Cornwall with Mountain Beach Fitness Retreats for weeks. Cornwall has always held a special place in my heart. It defined my childhood summers with seemingly endless sunny days (OK, yes and a few washouts holed up inside playing board games but even then it still seemed perfect) spent surfing, cycling, playing crazy golf, going for long walks along the golden dunes, crab fishing, barbecues on the beach and of course Cornish cream teas and ice cream.… Continue reading...

MBFR: The workouts

September 13, 2017
Come wind, rain, sunshine or snow we were always on the go! Verbier did not gift us with sunshine each day despite us visiting in peak summer. But the range of weather actually made the experience richer and certainly more memorable! Verbier was, however, kind enough to welcome us with bright sunshine and vivid blue skies for our first day, which helped to make it one of the happiest days I can remember. And the two days when the temperature dropped and we hiked through rain and snow was refreshing and atmospheric. It was wholesome to experience all weathers and warm up in a mountain restaurant trying with all our might to resist the enticing smell of mulled wine and melted cheese fondant…!… Continue reading...
