Nama Foods: Notting Hill Raw Restaurant

September 27, 2014

I’d been looking forward to lunch at Nama Foods all week. For most of us, when Friday hits we’re in desperate need of some rest, relaxation and regeneration so what better way to kick start it all with lunch at the new raw food haven that is the holy gluten-free-raw-grail of Notting Hill?

I met my lovely friend and journalist extraordinaire Harriet Compston (Condé Nast Traveller) at 1.30PM for what we thought would be a one-hour lunch. We ended up leaving at 4PM. Of course we had lots to catch up on and discuss but, unfortunately, that wasn’t the reason for our two and a half hour luncheon. Nama Foods has become so popular and getting a table – even when you’ve booked in advance as we’d done – is a challenge. No wonder Rosie Londoner pitched up with her “chap” and very hot girlfriend at 3PM – she knows when to come to avoid the chaos.

It was an espresso and green smoothie start. The Super Green contains kale, parsley, apple, celery, cucumber, avocado and chlorella – it’s smooth and creamy with a light sweetness.

Clever and cute – the drawers hold the cutlery

Starter: Kohlrabi Ravioli with Nut 'Cheese'

Starter: Kohlrabi Ravioli with Nut ‘Cheese’: Slices of marinated kohlrabi, probiotic sesame, mushroom and spinach cheese, fig puree and Asian cabbage salad.

Seaweed Salad

An ample sized Seaweed Salad: Wakame and dulse seaweed salad, miso dressing. It’s crunchy, earthy, slightly sweet and refreshing.

Thai Coconut Curry ~ Cauliflower, courgette, red pepper & leek marinated mushrooms, caramelised onions and olives

*Star dish* a terribly tasty and toothsome Thai Coconut Curry: Cauliflower, courgette, red pepper & leek marinated mushrooms, caramelised onions and olives.

Falafel Wrap ~ Pumpkin seed & sundried tomato falafel mix, 'roasted' Mediterranean vegetables, courgette & cashew nut hummus, rolled in a dehydrated veggie wrap

A fab gluten free Falafel Wrap: Pumpkin seed & sundried tomato falafel mix, ‘roasted’ Mediterranean vegetables, courgette & cashew nut hummus, rolled in a dehydrated veggie wrap. What a moreish mouthful.

Harriet sipped this Mango Lassi smoothie:  Mango, dates, young coconut, hemp, cinnamon and cardamom. I tasted it and it’s like heaven. Thick, creamy, sweet – like a liquidised rich pudding.

Chocolate Ganache Tart

The grand finale: Chocolate Ganache Tart. I can’t write the description of this because I want it so much already and writing more will cause me physical pain. OMG.

Verdict? I love love love the food here. Sure it’s a bit like waiting for Christmas getting a table and your food, but all good things come to those who wait and customers here knows it! With the delivery service on offer too, I have a feeling this is going to be a regular thing on my Notting Hill agenda. Nama-ste.
