New Zealand (spell)bound

June 14, 2018
At 6AM on May 5th I landed in Auckland, New Zealand for the first time. From the sky I’d got my first glimpse of the other-worldly Lord of the Rings land, all majestic green mountains and meandering rivers some several thousand feet below. The grey skies and light rain which enveloped my landing signalled Autumn had arrived. Having come from the humidity of Hong Kong and Thailand I imagined I’d have to hot-foot it to buy a suitcase of cashmere. Sundresses and bikinis certainly wouldn’t suffice these new chillier temperatures. But then, just 30 minutes later the sun came out and melted the clouds away.… Continue reading...

New Year fitness/health goals? Slow and steady wins the race

January 8, 2018
Hello you lovely lot and happy new year! I hope you had a fabulous festive break and are feeling pumped for all of 2018’s many possibilities! I’m guessing a fair few of you made health and fitness related new year’s resolutions. I did too. (More on this at the end of the post!) How are you faring with your new regimes? If you set SMART goals then I’m sure you’re doing great. But if you set the bar slightly too high and gave yourself unrealistic goals you may well be struggling. And you’re not alone. Countless people fall into this trap in January.… Continue reading...

ESC. to Cornwall with MBFR

September 27, 2017
They say a change is as good as a rest and in my experience “they” are right. The feeling of swapping the known for the unknown – be it people, place or situation – always fills me with energy and enthusiasm. I’d been looking forward to a long weekend in Cornwall with Mountain Beach Fitness Retreats for weeks. Cornwall has always held a special place in my heart. It defined my childhood summers with seemingly endless sunny days (OK, yes and a few washouts holed up inside playing board games but even then it still seemed perfect) spent surfing, cycling, playing crazy golf, going for long walks along the golden dunes, crab fishing, barbecues on the beach and of course Cornish cream teas and ice cream.… Continue reading...

Mad To Live Retreat: The Destination

June 19, 2017
“My aim is to totally stoke your brains out” says an impassioned Sophie spiritedly, her eyes sparkling brightly and mouth stretched into a wide smile. The force of life that sits opposite me is Sophie Everard, child of the universe, master of all sports and founder of Mad To Live Retreats. This girl has got something that no city slicker possesses. In fact, I’ve never met anyone quite like her. I first heard about Sophie’s retreats through my lovely fierce fitness friend Carly Rowena (who I’m sure you’ve heard of and she also features in my previous post on Kefalonia). Carly travels a lot with her work and is a notable fitness retreat connoisseur.… Continue reading...

Cape Town Living

March 24, 2017
This is the third and final instalment of my stint in Cape Town. So far you’ve  seen me hiking up mountains, paragliding off  them and  running, playing and being a yogi on the beach. It’s been action packed and it’s been utter bliss! You’ve also followed my trips through the breathtaking landscapes of the infamous winelands. Cape Town has SO much to offer and it ain’t over yet! Below you’ll see me  supping down the canals, biking in the hills, partying in the natural wonder that is Kirstenbosch botanical gardens and showing off the sights that make Cape Town one of my favourite places in the whole world.… Continue reading...

Take a Hike: Cape Town Mountain Series

March 15, 2017
Cape Town is surrounded by mountains which makes for dreamy (not so) city slicker living. The two most popular hiking trails are Table Mountain and Lion’s Head. Both offer easy and more taxing routes but whichever one you pick – I’m telling you – the views are out of this world! Table mountain will take you longer. I did the toughest most taxing route in just under an hour with some very fit friends. You basically climb massive boulders non-stop. SUCH an epic workout and it sure beats Barry’s Bootcamp or any indoor city workout any day. As for Lion’s Head – there are two routes to choose from when you get further up.… Continue reading...
