My Super Lux Stop-Over at The Siam Hotel, Bangkok

June 13, 2018
En route to New Zealand I had one very special night at the spectacular The Siam Hotel. It is to Bangkok what The Eden Roc is to Antibes. The grounds extend three acres along the Chao Phraya River, (Thailand’s equivalent of the French Rivera) in Bangkok’s royal Dusit district. And you really do receive the royal treatment here with your very own Butler who will cater to your every desire. Accommodation Images of The Siam Suite where I stayed The Art Deco inspired retreat, offers a spacious suites within the main hotel building, private pool villas (accommodates three) or even the century-old Connie’s Cottage which has been transformed form a traditional Thai teak house to a luxurious modern pool villa for two, whilst retaining it’s historical charm.… Continue reading...

5 reasons why you need to stay at Pulitzer Amsterdam

December 7, 2017
Welcome to the Pulitzer Amsterdam. Hidden amongst the city’s iconic canals this little gem comprises an intricate maze of 25 connecting Golden Age canal houses, decadent guest rooms, a gym, tranquil inner gardens, a garden café, a bar and a restaurant. I found out about the hotel after it kindly started following and liking me on Instagram! The complement was instantly reciprocated and one thing lead to another and before I knew it, we were doing a mini-break. Here’s why you should too! 1. It’s interior is vibrant, decadent and full of colour and charisma. After a full renovation the Pulitzer positively sparkles.… Continue reading...

Watergate Bay Hotel with MBFR

October 4, 2017
If you’ve read my previous posts you’ll know that I’m a big fan of Mountain Beach Fitness Retreats and you’ll know why. But there’s also the added allure of exceptional accommodation for each retreat you attend and Watergate Bay Hotel is no exception. The hotel’s USP is it’s situation right on Watergate Bay beach and it takes full advantage of this with its floor to ceiling windows allowing light to flood the pool and living areas. The sense of space and serenity that this creates is mesmerising. I could sit for hours watching the surfers paddle out to sea and ride the (huge) waves back into the beach and the happy families with their rosy-cheeked children and soggy, sandy dogs playing along the shoreline.… Continue reading...

Cornish state of mind with MBFR

September 28, 2017
A  retreat with Mountain Beach Fitness Retreats means the following. You will sweat. A lot. You will be unbelievably out of  breath. You will be pushed beyond your limits. And when you think you can’t possibly move another muscle, somehow you do. You will sleep like a baby and wake up with tired, aching limbs and feel like you need a good rest. But instead you’re once again put to the test. MBFR means sprinting  up hills, hiit circuits, hiking for hours on end, running, swimming, jumping, strengthening muscles, stretching and flexing – all within the most beautiful places on the planet staying in the most luxurious of hotels/chalets.… Continue reading...

MBFR: The food

September 13, 2017
Thinking about the super delicious, super nutritious food we were treated to on the MBFR week in Verbier makes my mouth water BIG TIME! We were completely spoiled with a very talented chef who never failed to keep us very happy and fuelled with superfoods so we could maximise our performance when it came to training. Think fresh, hot, crunchy coconut and almond breads for breakfast, eggs, avo, chia seed puddings, porridge, fruit, smoothies – the health foodie DREAM! Lunch was packed for us and contrary to the usual sarnie and chocolate bar lunchbox, ours looked like this… As for dinner… As you can see from this small taster (pun intended) of what we ate, the food was wholesome and we weren’t deprived.… Continue reading...

MBFR: The workouts

September 13, 2017
Come wind, rain, sunshine or snow we were always on the go! Verbier did not gift us with sunshine each day despite us visiting in peak summer. But the range of weather actually made the experience richer and certainly more memorable! Verbier was, however, kind enough to welcome us with bright sunshine and vivid blue skies for our first day, which helped to make it one of the happiest days I can remember. And the two days when the temperature dropped and we hiked through rain and snow was refreshing and atmospheric. It was wholesome to experience all weathers and warm up in a mountain restaurant trying with all our might to resist the enticing smell of mulled wine and melted cheese fondant…!… Continue reading...

Magic in the Mountains: A week with MBFR

September 12, 2017
“Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop away from you like the leaves of Autumn.” John Muir, The Mountains of California. This was no ordinary fitness retreat. Mountain Beach Fitness Retreats offer a range of breathtakingly (in every sense of the word!) beautiful destinations for their week-long fitness retreats and Verbier, (although I’m obviously biased having been and had an absolute blast) has to be the most sparkling jewel in its crown.… Continue reading...

Surrey Hills Escape

March 24, 2017
When you live in a city like London regular time-outs where you can slow everything down and just enjoy the simple pleasures are a must. And for me, the most simple way to do this is to escape to the country. I can never resist the call of long walks in the rolling hills and crisp clean air, cosy log fires, long breakfasts with the weekend papers, and just generally being in nature. Having recently got back from Cape Town I was missing hiking in the mountains (and a lot more!) so I decided to book a weekend with my bestie in the Surrey Hills to get my hiking fix.… Continue reading...

Hair Maintenance

March 13, 2016
About ten years ago one of my best girlfriends gave me Bergdoff Blondes to read. I loved it. It’s a story about the glitzy lives and loves of New York socialites and its title refers to how one of the main characters (Julie) routinely gets her hair dyed platinum blonde at luxury department store Bergdorf Goodman. Even back then I knew the significance of getting that “perfect blonde” socialite or not, and how hard (and expensive) it was to find. The book opens with words which are like the bible for blondes. “Bergdorf Blondes are a thing, you know, a New York [global] craze.… Continue reading...

Winter Glow Retreat at Poundon House

February 11, 2016
Before Christmas I pledged to put a decent portion of my time into attempting a yogi metamorphosis. So when January came off I trotted to Poundon House for my first ever yoga retreat. Which was taught by the gorgeous and very flexible Saskia Price. In Saskia’s words her teaching style has an “emphasis on breath and creative movement of vinyassa flow, the sequencing structures of Ashtanga, the heart and classical spirit of Dharma Mittra and the philosophy and playfulness of Jivamukti.”  (And in English) that’s yogi speak for a physical, dynamic and strong practice with an emphasis on breathing and some meditation at the end.… Continue reading...
