MBFR: The food

September 13, 2017
Thinking about the super delicious, super nutritious food we were treated to on the MBFR week in Verbier makes my mouth water BIG TIME! We were completely spoiled with a very talented chef who never failed to keep us very happy and fuelled with superfoods so we could maximise our performance when it came to training. Think fresh, hot, crunchy coconut and almond breads for breakfast, eggs, avo, chia seed puddings, porridge, fruit, smoothies – the health foodie DREAM! Lunch was packed for us and contrary to the usual sarnie and chocolate bar lunchbox, ours looked like this… As for dinner… As you can see from this small taster (pun intended) of what we ate, the food was wholesome and we weren’t deprived.… Continue reading...

Current Skin Saviours

September 11, 2017
It’s our biggest and fastest growing organ so it’s only right that we give it some TLC. And if you like me live in London or a city like it, your job is doubly important as pollution will age and damage your skin at a much faster rate than if you lived in the country. Now I’m in my 30’s and fine lines and wrinkles are way more of a threat, I have to look after my skin more than I did before where face wipes and Nivea was about as far as my regime went. I’ve road tested several different product lines  and the below are the ones that made the final cut because they gave the best results.… Continue reading...

What we ate on MTLR

June 26, 2017
With so much exercise we needed to eat a lot to keep our energy up. And eat we did and very well too. Breakfast was a feast of Lucy Rocks musleis (vegan, gluten free), Pip & Nut butters, fresh fruit, chia puddings, custard tarts (we were in Portugal – it would be ride not to), eggs and toast. Lunch was usually a picnic on the beach and this was a simple chicken salad. Fruit, crisps and biccies were also on tap. This wasn’t a retreat for turning the treats down! For me, dinner was when I got really excited. Rainbow arrays of exotic salads, spreads, herbs and veggies were presented with artistic flair, accompanied by bigger, heartier dishes like risotto, pasta, paella and big meat dishes.… Continue reading...

Mad To Live Retreat: The Destination

June 19, 2017
“My aim is to totally stoke your brains out” says an impassioned Sophie spiritedly, her eyes sparkling brightly and mouth stretched into a wide smile. The force of life that sits opposite me is Sophie Everard, child of the universe, master of all sports and founder of Mad To Live Retreats. This girl has got something that no city slicker possesses. In fact, I’ve never met anyone quite like her. I first heard about Sophie’s retreats through my lovely fierce fitness friend Carly Rowena (who I’m sure you’ve heard of and she also features in my previous post on Kefalonia). Carly travels a lot with her work and is a notable fitness retreat connoisseur.… Continue reading...

F Zeen Retreat, Kefalonia

May 26, 2017
This was a very  special trip. Early one May morning four fitness bloggers including myself gathered together at Gatwick Airport for the first time, unaware that it would be the start of a beautiful friendship between us all. Not to mention the start of four days in paradise. (Scroll to the bottom of this post to find out who these girls are and where you can follow them! They are a true inspiration.) A three and a half hour flight took us in Kefalonia, the largest island of the Ionian Sea and remarkably untarnished by tourists. Its land is lush and its many beaches exotic, uncrowded and completely breathtaking.… Continue reading...

Hello Day Supplements: Spring Box review

May 11, 2017
When the seasons change so too does our external environment. Sunlight exposure, temperature, wind, rain and natural life all fluctuate and this obviously has a big impact on how we feel and even how we look. We’re usually happier and more energetic when we have a decent amount of sun exposure and an environment that’s rich with life. But when our external environment is harsh, urban, polluted and our skin is exposed to all kinds of extreme weather and temperatures viruses like colds reign supreme, skin feels dry and delicate and our mood and energy often take a nose dive. To help manage the effects of the changing seasons, Hello Day has designed supplements specifically formulated by doctors and pharmacists to help you prepare and manage your body, mind and spirit throughout the year.… Continue reading...

A stress-free afternoon with a cuppa Starbucks Teavana

October 20, 2016
According to most Brits there’s nothing that a good old cuppa can’t conquer. And we may do well to keep this in mind as survey after survey shows us city slickers are more stressed and depressed then ever. We have vast unbinding workloads and deal with daily over-doses of social media and online engagement. The result? We’re constantly connected and rarely in the natural life-enhancing clean air of the countryside alone with just our thoughts. So what to do? We need to switch off FAR more. We need to make time in our week for wholesome device-free down-time. Now that Autumn’s here the evenings are drawing in and daylight hours are becoming even more important to savour (a vitamin D supplement is also essential as most Brits become deficient in the winter months).… Continue reading...

The Quarter Life Health Project: The Experience

October 10, 2016
So you’ve heard about the gang, the grub and how I felt before going to TQLHP retreat at Gran Hotel Benahavis, (see previous three posts) but how did it feel to actually be there and what was the experience like? I’ve been sworn to secrecy on sharing the special events that took place during the retreat so the surprise isn’t ruined for future guests, but I will tell you the general gist and how it affected me. The combination of yoga, meditation, workshops, walks, downtime and sunshine all shared with open-hearted and open-minded women was beautiful. There wasn’t a single soul that left the retreat not feeling more relaxed, energised and positive.… Continue reading...

Quarter Life Health Project Retreat (Before)

September 13, 2016
When the invitation came to join The Holistic Health Project for its Quarter Life retreat in Spain I admit I had to think twice about accepting. Despite the alluring descriptions of Kundalini yoga, hiking, meditation and naturopathic (the use of whole and organic foods as medicine – an integral concept of healing in many indigenous societies) vegan cuisine that would be on offer in Benahavis, a mountain village between Marbella, Estepona and Ronda 7 km from the coast, there was something about the following phrase that didn’t sit well with me. “The Retreat for 20/30 something females going through a quarter life crisis” it rather uninvitingly dubbed itself.… Continue reading...

Three Berry Good Breakfast Recipes

July 13, 2016
When it comes to health berries have a fab rep. Blueberries are packed with antioxidants, (called anthocyanins), that may help keep memory sharp and raspberries contain ellagic acid, a compound with anti-cancer properties. They’re also a great sources of fiber, which aids a healthy digestive system. Oh and the best bit? They are DEE-LISH. But if you need more reasons to dig into summer’s sun-kissed little fruits, take a look at some of my favourite brekkies brimming with berries. What’s more they have the added bonus of containing some of Bioglan’s Superfoods to add more bang to your buck and more spring to your step.… Continue reading...
