Salomon Trail Festival; transitioning from tarmac to turf!

June 10, 2019
Last Saturday I hopped on a train out of London and headed for the Surrey Hills in hot pursuit of the Salomon Trail running festival at Box Hill, just one hour away. Skies were grey and showers were intermittent but I was prepared for any weather with my waterproofs and extra layers so a little light rain wasn’t going to stop me. As a road runner I’m highly aware of the high impact that the constant, repetitive pounding on the tarmac has on my legs. Running mainly on the flat road means that the same muscles get used at every step, which puts them under a lot of strain.… Continue reading...

sky high in Oman

May 24, 2019
I love adventures. I love all kinds of adventures but my very favourite are adventures in the great outdoors. I love discovering new places and landscapes and the thoughts, ideas, feelings and opportunities they inspire and ignite in me. I love the newness and feelings of freedom and deep gratitude they provoke. (Even without the adventure just being in nature always leaves me marvelling at the miracles of creation!) It’s a chance to deeply connect to the natural world, to myself and others around me, breathe deeply, challenge my body and explore its capabilities whilst allowing myself the time to appreciate the simple things like sunshine on my skin, the current of the ocean swirling around me, the crisp clean mountain air, the grandeur of century old cedar trees… You get the idea.… Continue reading...

Peloton: The hottest new home and studio workout

November 12, 2018
In the last six months I’d heard a lot about Peloton. One of my favourite podcasts – The Tim Ferris show – is sponsored by peloton and that alone was enough to make me eager to try it since I trust Tim’s high reviews to be legit – sponsored or not. But at this point, Peloton was only available in the USA. I forgot about it for a while until my friend and runner extraordinare Becs Gentry, moved from London across the pond to NYC to instruct the studio run classes.  I’ve been captivated by her IG stories where Becs shares snip-bits of the Peloton classes she teaches.… Continue reading...

Recovery Tactics Post Berlin Marathon

October 1, 2018
The day after Berlin marathon my body felt like it had been beaten up! Getting in and out of the bath was a struggle and getting in and out of cabs proved tricky too. I felt like an old lady! My left knee had taken most of my early fall in the race and both my knees were pretty swollen, sore, bruised and bloody. I had to limp around because my left knee was too painful to bend and I couldn’t stand for long periods of time due to my sore fatigued abs, which surprised me. After I stepped over the finish line My coach Jane Vongvorachoti had stressed the importance of walking back from the marathon to ensure my blood didn’t pool in my legs and slow my recovery.… Continue reading...

My Berlin Marathon Training

September 24, 2018
The Training I gave myself about two months to train for Berlin marathon. It wasn’t enough but thankfully it got me through. I was super eager to complete my first marathon. After getting injured following an online plan for London marathon earlier this year (please never rely on these because, for one thing, they are completely lacking in strength training and I’ve heard of so many people like me who got injured by following them), I had been successfully rebuilding my fitness levels but wanted expert guidance to optimise my preparation for Berlin. My expert help came in the form of Jane Vongvorachoti, an olympic runner who also trains clients at Equinox London and lead the Equinox team through Boston marathon.… Continue reading...

Marathon Recovery help from GelpacksDirect

April 19, 2018
Whilst I was training for the VLM I was super fortunate to get sent some gelpacks (compression wraps) to help my muscles recover and regenerate in between my runs. I want to tell you guys about these compression wraps because together with my physio, foam rolling, stretching and rehab exercises, I’ve used them a lot and they really do help in a number of ways which I’ll explain below. Even if you’re not a runner – you can use them after strength and conditioning training, skiing, hiking – basically any activity that’s challenged your legs! So what is this particular compression wrap and how does it aid recovery? … Continue reading...

ESC. to Cornwall with MBFR

September 27, 2017
They say a change is as good as a rest and in my experience “they” are right. The feeling of swapping the known for the unknown – be it people, place or situation – always fills me with energy and enthusiasm. I’d been looking forward to a long weekend in Cornwall with Mountain Beach Fitness Retreats for weeks. Cornwall has always held a special place in my heart. It defined my childhood summers with seemingly endless sunny days (OK, yes and a few washouts holed up inside playing board games but even then it still seemed perfect) spent surfing, cycling, playing crazy golf, going for long walks along the golden dunes, crab fishing, barbecues on the beach and of course Cornish cream teas and ice cream.… Continue reading...
