A powerful reminder of how food effects our mood and general wellbeing

July 16, 2019
A couple of months ago I returned to London after racing in Riga with some sore muscles. Nothing serious but enough to make me take a step back, significantly reduce the mileage and concentrate mostly on building strength before beginning the next phase of my training. I’m committed to ensuring my legs stay strong so I can nail all the trails and set some super challenges! Yet, it’s amazing how cutting the running so significantly effected me. Running has become so integral to my life and without it I was surprised by just how much my mood and energy dropped. Perhaps this seems counterintuitive to any non-runners.… Continue reading...

Biohacking with CBD lozenges

June 28, 2019
You know those bright, brilliant moments in life where your energy is soaring and your mind and body are firing on all cylinders? Thoughts come quickly and clearly and physical movement happens almost effortlessly. You feel free, unshackled from any of life’s resistances and like you can conquer anything. I frickin love this feeling. Mental and physical effort feels pleasurable. There is momentum behind me and a surge of motivation and purpose. According to positive psychologist Mihály Csíkszentmihályi, what we experience in these moments is known as flow state, defined as an “optimal state of consciousness where we feel our best and perform our best.” Csíkszentmihályi, popularised the term in his 1990 book and describes the mental state of flow as “being completely involved in an activity for its own sake.… Continue reading...

The third and final session of my Hypnotherapy experience

June 27, 2019
During the week in-between my second and third session with Lydia my tickling cough turned into a full-blown bug. I’d managed to keep going long enough to make it through some social and work engagements plus a friend’s birthday fuelled by booze to override the fatigue. Obviously this remedy belongs to the devil and I paid my dues after. But things were still continuing to transform and blossom in my life even whilst I nursed a fever. As I said in my previous post, the credit to which this blossoming belongs to is largely Lydia’s. Lydia, through her hypnotherapy and wise approach allowed me to realise the changes I needed to make in order to move forwards.… Continue reading...

Hypno knows; how hypnotherapy unexpectedly helped me

June 12, 2019
Life is hard. We know this. And we also know that everyone we meet is dealing with their own struggles. Often, living can seem like you’re a salmon constantly swimming upstream against an unrelenting current complete with menacing bears trying to catch you and eat you just when you’re trying your damn hardest to make it to the top. BUT! Sometimes, just sometimes, life can offer you an easier, rather lovely route where hidden treasures lie in the places where bears once stood and the current is on your side to provide you with gentle assistance along your journey to the top.… Continue reading...

My 10k Riga Race in 33 degrees

June 5, 2019
(Latvia Part II) Morning came and with it clear skies and hot, hot sunshine. It had been a sleep starfish in your birthday suit with windows wide open kinda night. Mercury was continuing to rise and with a race time of 12.45pm I knew I was in for a scorcher. A big bonus of my late start time meant I could have two breakfast’s though and boy did I make use of that double whammy! Round one was mushrooms, spinach, toast and a smoothie and round two was porridge and mashed banana. By the time my Latvian mummy arrived to drive me to the start I was ready to rock ‘n run.… Continue reading...

Hello lovely Latvia

June 5, 2019
Earlier this month I was lucky enough to have a lovely time in Latvia – as well as a painful one (more on this in the next post)! I’m so grateful to the Latvian tourist board for the invitation to visit for many reasons, not least because without it I’m not sure I’d have ever had the delight of discovering the country’s natural charm and beauty, which deserves to be celebrated. Before my arrival in Latvia, Europe’s second greenest country, I had a pretty undeveloped idea of what to expect. Judging by its location in the Baltic region of Northern Europe (bordered by Russia, Belarus, Estonia and Lithuania) I imagined it would be colder than the UK (wrong!… Continue reading...

Why you should feel grateful every day

November 29, 2018
When life’s knocked you around a bit, when you’ve seen a few things and time has happened and you’ve got some years under your belt, you start to think more highly of modest things like flowers and a pretty sky or just a morning when nothing’s gone wrong and everyone’s been pretty nice to everyone else and things are pretty nice and it’s coming up to eleven or twelve o’clock and things are going well and you think – that’s nice. No one’s died, everyone’s ok. It makes you a little bit more modest.                                                                                                       –Alain de Botton in conversation with Tim Ferris on the Tim Ferris Show Podcast Hands up if you can relate to these wise words spoken by one of modern day’s most esteemed philosophers?… Continue reading...

Sydney: My Balmain guide

July 11, 2018
Straight after I completed the Hawkes Bay 10K I caught a flight to Sydney still soaring on a high of endorphins. I felt like a live wire. So free and self-sufficient and energetic and excited and like nothing was holding me back. I was in my element. I was pursuing my passions, living in the moment and being completely true to myself in the most beautiful, wild places on the planet. Life felt so good. I should add, quickly, that this state is certainly not the norm for me. I’m generally an optimist but just like everyone else I have my shit storm days and I’ve certainly experienced adversity.… Continue reading...

Hello Day Supplements: Spring Box review

May 11, 2017
When the seasons change so too does our external environment. Sunlight exposure, temperature, wind, rain and natural life all fluctuate and this obviously has a big impact on how we feel and even how we look. We’re usually happier and more energetic when we have a decent amount of sun exposure and an environment that’s rich with life. But when our external environment is harsh, urban, polluted and our skin is exposed to all kinds of extreme weather and temperatures viruses like colds reign supreme, skin feels dry and delicate and our mood and energy often take a nose dive. To help manage the effects of the changing seasons, Hello Day has designed supplements specifically formulated by doctors and pharmacists to help you prepare and manage your body, mind and spirit throughout the year.… Continue reading...
