The Quarter Life Health Project Retreat: The Food

September 20, 2016
“Indulgent, delicious, wholesome and nutrient rich food is very much at the heart of our ethos at The Holistic Health Project.” Happily I found this statement to be true although perhaps “indulgent” is a slight stretch. The vegan gluten-free meals are all masterminded by THHP founder Stephanie and I found myself constantly quizzing her on the recipes, excited to recreate them myself at home. We ate each light and wholesome meal altogether and the buffet style format meant there was always more for anyone who wanted it. The emphasis is on nourishment not deprivation via mainly local, sustainable and organic produce.… Continue reading...

Quarter Life Health Project: The Gang

September 20, 2016
As the sun set on the first night of the Quarter Life Health Project in Benahavis, ten women in their twenties and thirties gathered with Kundalini yoga teacher Aimee Rai in a circle under the stars to share their stories. Aimee lead the way, sharing how her troubled past riddled with alcoholism, addiction, eating disorders, self harming, depression and severe anxiety had actually turned out to be the blessings which lead her to discover Kundalini yoga, the practise which helped her to gain a life full of balance, health, peace and purpose. Everyone had different motivations for attending the retreat. Some issues were severe and some were just small stumbling blocks which were inhibiting progression in certain areas.… Continue reading...

Quarter Life Health Project Retreat (Before)

September 13, 2016
When the invitation came to join The Holistic Health Project for its Quarter Life retreat in Spain I admit I had to think twice about accepting. Despite the alluring descriptions of Kundalini yoga, hiking, meditation and naturopathic (the use of whole and organic foods as medicine – an integral concept of healing in many indigenous societies) vegan cuisine that would be on offer in Benahavis, a mountain village between Marbella, Estepona and Ronda 7 km from the coast, there was something about the following phrase that didn’t sit well with me. “The Retreat for 20/30 something females going through a quarter life crisis” it rather uninvitingly dubbed itself.… Continue reading...

Starbucks UK Teavana Launch

August 12, 2016
We’ve been blessed with beautiful champagne days recently here in the UK and us Londoners have been lucky enough to see the city shimmer in sunlight. When the sun’s shining it’s impossible not to feel an instant spark of energy and positivity. So imagine how elated I felt when last week, standing 155 metres above the ground at Sky Gardens to celebrate Starbucks’ new Teavana iced tea range,  I saw our capital city shimmering in the early morning sunlight. The morning started with a beautiful gentle yoga practise. With a glass panel roof and floor to ceiling windows sunlight streamed in from every possible angle, making  the session feel incredibly special and spiritual.… Continue reading...

Tribe Power! Presenting at Les Mills Live London

May 25, 2016
Never has the expression “Your vibe attracts your tribe” been more apt than at Les Mills Live which took place at Excel London in partnership with Reebok earlier this year. Take over 4,000 super positive, super fit, super dedicated simply smashing Les Mills fans (known in the inner circle as the #lesmillstribe) and you have one pretty powerful sight to behold. Back in March, Les Mills Live Global Tour kicked off with mega watt power and I was lucky enough to be presenting the event with fellow presenter AJ Odudu. If the name Les Mills doesn’t immediately ring a bell then I’m sure the mention of the Les Mills classes such as Body Attack, Body Pump, Body Combat, RPM (the list goes on) will be instantly familiar.… Continue reading...

Yoga, Skiing and Veggie Feasting at Chalet Rosière

April 6, 2016
Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning to dance in the rain. March 8th: It was just under two weeks until my 30th birthday and I had no plans. An exciting new work project had meant that I’d had to hold off arranging any celebrations but then a sudden break in my schedule occurred and I was left with a big gaping space in my diary where my 30th birthday stood blankly. 2016 had so far been magical in many ways but very tough in others. Backtrack to last year however and there was only magic.… Continue reading...

NY’s Resolution #1: Find My Inner Yogi (With the help of Saskia Price and Poundon House)

December 17, 2015
Yoga. It’s something I’ve always wanted to make my best friend but we’ve always been a bit like chalk and cheese. Although, I thought I came close to finding my inner yogi back when Bikram was all the rage and I sweated (craaazy amounts) whilst obediently following the stern instructions of the Bikram master. I actually loved it. It made me feel supple and like I’d really worked hard. But Bikram took about 3 1/2 hours door to door and I couldn’t sustain the time commitment. Other yogis would also tell me that Bikram isn’t “true yoga” since the practice is very unforgiving (you’re told off if you get a posture wrong) and the calmness and meditation that comes from more traditional yoga is absent.… Continue reading...

Virgin Active’s New Barre Class

November 24, 2015
Barre is a brand new to Virgin Active’s class timetable – a 45-minute class which combines a fusion of classical ballet moves, Pilates, yoga and dance devised to tone, define and sculpt the whole body. I’ve tried various barre classes across town but never succeeded in finding one which is conveniently located, so it’s never been a regular feature in my workout routine. So when VA invited me to try their barre class at Lancaster road (which has just undergone a beautiful revamp), just a stone’s throw from my flat, off I trotted hopefully to see if this class would become a weekly fixture.… Continue reading...

Third and Final day at Thirty Eight Degrees North, Ibiza

November 11, 2015
I got to know the breakfast staff at Aguas de Ibiza very well. With so much exercise I developed a routine of having two breakfasts because I definitely needed the extra fuel. And it would have been rude not to right? But this wasn’t an excuse to go crazy at the buffet. I kept my meals balanced and nutritious. Round (I) (eaten in a flash so no time for a snap) was berries and cereal and round two was eggs/smoked salmon and veggies with a smooth almond milk cappuccino. After breakfast round (I) of berries and cereal (eaten in a flash so no time for a snap) it was off to yoga, which eased my muscles back into moving gently which I was particularly grateful for given how stiff I was from the previous days here!… Continue reading...

Mini Escape to Lime Wood Hotel

July 23, 2015
When I swap the city streets to fields of green and rolling hills, it’s usually for at least a weekend. However, when an invitation came to sample the raw delights of Lime Wood Hotel’s restaurant Raw & Cured – how could I refuse? The day started with a green juice before hopping onto a train to Brockenhurst (New Forest) at Waterloo. It took just under two hours to get from Waterloo to Lime Wood. Such a quick and easy journey – I started to seriously question myself why I hadn’t done a day-trip before. Waiting looking exceedingly delicious for our arrival were these beautiful watermelon and strawberry juices with raw coconut protein bites (above) to accompany them.… Continue reading...
